| almost exactly two years ago, i was in jos, and i interviewed a pastor about the possibility of renewed religiously based conflict there. his response was, "i have a friend who is muslim. would I save his neck? i'm not sure, even though i'm a pastor. the way they killed our people - the wounds are not healed." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/01/world/africa/01nigeria.html?ref=world |

| and today was a really nice day because it was 70 degrees and sunny, i finished two papers & saw gov. schwarzenegger speak to a reception of yale students from california "when you finish at yale, you must come back to california, i want you to say 'i'll be back'".... seriously, he said that. very cheesy.
then we threw a very successful bridal shower for my friend sinead featuring hilarious games + the following food items, listed for my own interest: pizza, homemade oreo cheesecake covered in chocolate-dipped strawberries, brownies, several kinds of cookies, pretzels dipped in pink vanilla icing and mini m&m's and sprinkles, swedish fish, peanut butter hershey kisses, candy necklaces, vanilla ice cream, sorbet, mint chocolate chip ice cream, chocolate-dipped strawberries, carrots and hummus, fancy cheeses and bread, fruit salad, several kinds of chips and guacamole and salsa, and of course wine and beer and sodas and juice. it was kind of ridiculous.

| you will probably be unsurprised to know that i am supposed to be writing a paper right now. so i have chosen this moment to post six of my favorite photos from laos and cambodia.
i dont know why this is sideways, but imagine walking up to a reception like this at a kindergarten (vientiane, laos)

this was just outrageous. the kid in the middle is pointing a plastic gun at me. (luang prabang, laos)
later in the tour, i caught this moment of interest between this little hasidic boy and a laotian buddhist monk, outside the chabad house. (luang prabang, laos)

pretty (outside luang prabang, laos)
one of many examples of the jungle taking over the temples. (angkor wat, cambodia)
recovering after a long day of our teaching the village kids "duck, duck, goose" and red rover. (kampong speu, cambodia)
